How to Create a Professional Online Presence

Your Internet Presence

If you are trying to build your internet presence but aren't sure what to do or aren't achieving the kind of results you would like, there are three key things you should do to ensure you build a good reputation and solid foundation for your online success.

Sadly, the people who tried building their businesses offline by talking to everyone they meet (whether they are interested or not), are doing the same thing online. I'm not saying don't approach people you know and ask for referrals or share your business/products/services with them. But how often do you go up to people and just start telling them about your business without first getting to know them and letting them get to know you? Hopefully not very often. So why would you do that with people you meet online?

If you're very new to internet marketing, and have not yet heard the term"attraction marketing", then that is a great starting point to build knowledge and understanding. In a nutshell, attraction marketing involves leveraging the Internet to attract qualified people to you by providing valuable information that meets your target market's needs.

You will want to learn as much as you can about the effective ways to do attraction marketing. As a start, here are three things students of attraction marketing should do to create a positive and lasting Internet presence.

Commitment

Commitment

1. Commitment

Be committed to learning everything you can about internet and attraction marketing. There is a ton of great information on social networking sites like Hubpages and Squidoo.

Anyone who is serious about their business should also join a training program to learn the skills required to be successful. Yes, you can read hubs and other helpful articles and try to find your way. If you take this route, you will spend months surfing around trying to put all the pieces together. To accelerate your learning and get you earning income much faster, invest in a good internet marketing training program.

2. Credibility

Attraction marketing is all about creating value for your target market so they approach you and initiate the business relationship. Ultimately, people are going to be attracted to those who have credibility.

So how do you achieve credibility in the online world? By presenting yourself as a professional who is willing and able to help people with their needs. You lose credibility when you flash your products and services in people’s faces. Instead, brand yourself as someone of value, and let your products and services take a backseat. Come from an honest place of wanting to help others, and your credibility will shine through.

And when people perceive you as someone with credibility and integrity, it will naturally follow that they will want to do business with you. That might not mean they will join your team (right away or in fact ever). But it will mean that you can work together and support one another to reach your goals. Which brings me to the 3rd C.

3. Collaboration

Interacting with others is at the heart of what Web 2.0 is all about. By connecting with people online, we not only shape the face of the Internet, but we can build a community of collaboration and mutual support.

There are many ways to collaborate with people online. One simple way is to share valuable content and information. Another way is to comment on other people's content. Meeting people on social networking sites and getting to know them is another excellent opportunity for collaboration.

Obviously you aren’t going to talk with everyone, but you will come across people with whom you would like to take things to the next level. It might be someone who’s advice you are seeking, or someone you genuinely think you can help. Or it might be someone you would like to partner with in some way.

For instance, I have been a guest presenter on other people's teleseminars. I am also in the midst of several joint venture projects with other business coaches and marketing professionals. We share the same target market and provide complimentary services for our clients.

There is no end to how you can create powerful collaborations that benefit you and your clients.

Hello Cindy,

Great Hub, very informative. You are correct that having a successful online (or offline) business can be accomplished much more effectively if you enlist the help of others by using social networking and social bookmarking sites. But as you pointed out, there is a right way & a wrong way. Thanks again for the Hub. Steve Dougherty

Thank you Steve. I appreciate your feedback. I think that if you have a real desire to help people, then that will shine through. If your hidden (or not so hidden) agenda is to just enroll them or sell them, then that will be obvious as well.

All the best,

Cindy

Excellent value Cindy! The way you explain it is really common sense which sadly is just not so common these days. People do what they know and if they were taught everyone was their prospect offline I guess its natural they would carry those methods online. In fact I remember being so 'sold' on the idea that I bypassed common sense because I believed what I was being taught and the carrot was so enticing that if that is what I had to do to build my business then that is what I would do. Hopefully these people read your hub!

Thank you Irene! I truly believe that those of us who have had the opportunity to learn from the people who "get it" have an obligation to share what we've learned. You and I are both very lucky to have learned from some great people!

Best wishes,

Cindy

Very good information. When I first started on the internet I fell for everything that was offered, bought some junk prospects, oh what a mess. I am now focusing only on a couple different strategies. Thank you.

Good for you Janette. There is nothing wrong with trial and error, but if we can help people save time (and money) by accelerating their learning curve, then we're doing our jobs. Wishing you well, Cindy
